bill parsonsGreeting students, alumni, and friends of the Department of Political Science and Leadership Studies.

2017-18 marks the conclusion of our second year in the Folwell Center, a year which afforded us the opportunity to fully implement many of the initiatives made possible by the Folwell endowment. Some of the highlights include co-sponsoring a wonderful international festival with the World Affairs Council Quad Cities Chapter, providing summer camps for high school students interested in mock trial and Model UN, and the annual Folwell Lecture.

Three years ago, St. Ambrose University signed a 3+3 agreement with the University of Iowa School of Law, and this year we are pleased to report that our first Political Science student has been accepted into that program.

Under the leadership of Sarah Gorham '10 we continue to field a competitive Mock Trial team participating in tournaments in the upper midwest in both the Fall and Spring semesters.

Similarly, our Model UN team, led by Dr. Duk Kim continues to attract students from Political Science, International Studies, and from across the SAU campus. Our Model UN team participates in two regional tournaments, one each semester, held in St. Louis and Chicago.

As you browse the newsletter make sure you check our regular information highlighting the achievements and accomplishments of current students, alumni, and faculty. Thank you for your interest in the activities of the Department of Political Science and Leadership Studies.

And, we extend a special invitation to alumni and friends of the Department and St. Ambrose University to stay in touch. We would very much enjoy hearing from you and hear more about what you are doing. We would especially look forward to you visiting the campus of St. Ambrose and stopping by the Folwell Center to check out our space designed to serve students interested in pre-law, politics, public service, community service, and international studies.

–Dr. William W. Parsons, Chair
