Rooted in our Catholic social teaching and guided by the principles of inclusivity, St. Ambrose University is unwavering in its commitment to cultivating an environment that embraces and celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as fundamental values interwoven into every aspect of campus life.

Midwestern hospitality was on full display this past week as more than 300 gathered on St. Ambrose University’s campus to celebrate and honor the ten-year papacy of Pope Francis. This 3-day international conference, titled Francis at Ten: A Papacy of Possibilities, began as the hushed audience listened intently as a letter was read from Pope Francis to the attendees.

Following the theme "Challenging Boundaries; Building Community," the AWSJ conference was an impactful and lively morning filled with local community and political leaders, panel discussions, and a keynote address by Ann McGlynn, founder of Tapestry Farms, a non-profit urban farm system investing in refugees to the Quad Cities.

Following the global Earth Day 2022 theme of "Invest in Our Planet," this year's St. Ambrose event is chock-full of activities to educate students, staff, faculty, and the general public on investing in environmental sustainability.

Each of the gracious letters discussed below included financial donations, but we share them because of what they say about St. Ambrose and Ambrosians. These letters touched our hearts and we hope they will yours, too.

Perla Hernandez's lifelong curiosity as to how pieces of the puzzle fit together to track time, to discover stars or to spark electricity led her to pursue a St. Ambrose Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Philosophy professor Tadd Ruetenik, PhD, proposed the 2019-20 theme due to the University's long history of social justice activism and because the United States still is fighting a war that began shortly after Sept. 11, 2001.

Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee will provide the keynote address for the 16th annual Ambrose Women for Social Justice Conference, “War and Peace: Gender and Justice” on Sept. 24 at the Rogalski Center of St. Ambrose University.
The St. Ambrose University community joined in solidarity in a Unity Walk organized by the Black Student Union in response to recent racist graffiti found on campus.
