Midwestern hospitality was on full display this past week as more than 300 gathered on St. Ambrose University’s campus to celebrate and honor the ten-year papacy of Pope Francis. This 3-day international conference, titled Francis at Ten: A Papacy of Possibilities, began as the hushed audience listened intently as a letter was read from Pope Francis to the attendees.
Following the theme "Challenging Boundaries; Building Community," the AWSJ conference was an impactful and lively morning filled with local community and political leaders, panel discussions, and a keynote address by Ann McGlynn, founder of Tapestry Farms, a non-profit urban farm system investing in refugees to the Quad Cities.
Following the global Earth Day 2022 theme of "Invest in Our Planet," this year's St. Ambrose event is chock-full of activities to educate students, staff, faculty, and the general public on investing in environmental sustainability.
Each of the gracious letters discussed below included financial donations, but we share them because of what they say about St. Ambrose and Ambrosians. These letters touched our hearts and we hope they will yours, too.
Perla Hernandez's lifelong curiosity as to how pieces of the puzzle fit together to track time, to discover stars or to spark electricity led her to pursue a St. Ambrose Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
