SAUtv, KALA Finish Awards Season Strong

Over the June  27-28 weekend, six St. Ambrose student journalists won a combined eight awards from the Iowa Broadcast News Association (IBNA).

The IBNA typically hosts its conference and awards ceremony in April, but postponed this year's event until June due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Student and professional journalists from around the state of Iowa were recognized for their outstanding work accomplished during the 2019 calendar year.

Student journalists working in SAUtv earned first, second and third place awards across several categories:

  • FEATURE: Alyshia Dobson, First Place
  • SPORTS COVERAGE: Oliden Herrera '19, Third Place
  • GENERAL REPORTING: Sharon (Adasme) Bentley '20, Second Place
  • EXCELLENCE IN REPORTING: Oliden Herrera '19, Third Place
  • BEST NEWSCAST: SAUtv, Third Place

KALA-FM's student sports team won two first place and one third place award:

  • SPORTS COVERAGE: Brad Burton '20 and Logen Howell, First Place and Third Place
  • SPORTS PLAY-BY-PLAY: Carter Foley '20, First Place

KALA-FM also enjoyed awards this year from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
