Figged Distinguishes Art Faculty

07/05/2005

When the Figge Art Museum opens in downtown Davenport later this summer, two SAU art faculty will have had a hand-and a brush-in drawing the first visitors to the facility.

Art Professor Leslie Bell has chaired the Artists Advisory Council to the Figge and is co-curator, with local artist Pete Schulte, of a show for the grand opening in September.

The show, "41° North/90° West: Contemporary Landscape at the Figge," takes its name from the geographical coordinates of the museum and will contain two pieces by Art Professor Kristin Quinn, the only local artist featured.

"Kristin will be cheek-by-jowl with some really well-known American artists," Bell says, including Tom Uttech, Robin Braun, and photographer Larry Schwarm.

Bell described the show as an "atypical landscape show-more like marginalized landscapes. We're taking a traditional idiom and standing it on its ear."
