It could be said that St. Ambrose is the force to be reckoned with in the Midwest Collegiate Conference.

In the fall 2009 season alone, three varsity sports nabbed their respective conference titles: men's cross-country, women's soccer and women's volleyball. For the men's cross-country team, it was their fourth consecutive championship, and the Queen Bees soccer and volleyball teams went undefeated in conference play.

The swarm didn't stop there. The men's indoor track and field team raced to a conference title, and the women's basketball team was nationally-ranked for most of the season.

St. Ambrose is in the hunt for another MCC Commissioners Cup after taking the trophy the first two years of the award's existence, and 15 athletes were named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar-Athletes. To date, 42 varsity athletes have been selected for All-Conference honors.

Three outstanding coaches each notched impressive milestones: Men's volleyball coach Bruce Billingsley won his 500th match in August; athletics director and men's basketball coach Ray Shovlain earned his 500th win in January; and men's golf coach Jeff Griebel was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.

To cap off an already event-filled year, St. Ambrose hosted two national championship tournaments, the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship and the NAIA Men's Volleyball Invitational Tournament.
