The SAU Theatre Department is proud to announce the sixth Michael Kennedy Scholar, Aaron Randolph III '02. The recipient of this award must be declared a theatre major and have a strong dedication to work ethic and humor. Aaron is a returning student to St. Ambrose after having completed a BA in Music and a minor in Theatre in 2002. He is back at Ambrose to take more theatre classes to earn a BA in Theatre along with a BA in Computer Network Administration for "work during the day."
He is very passionate about theatre, and so is his wife, Lisa Bosch Randolph '99, who has her BA in Theatre. According to Aaron, they plan to become "total theatre nerds" once the kids are out of the house.
Randolph's previous SAU theatre experience includes acting roles such as: Macbeth in "Macbeth," Uncle Peck in "How I Learned to Drive," and Picasso in "Picasso at the Lapin Agile." He also helped in stage management and wrote original music for "James and the Giant Peach" and Macbeth, and sound designed "Hedda Gabler."
Randolph is well-rounded in all aspects of the theatre. He used to spend a lot of time in the scene shop "making Kris Eitrheim's life harder," which ended up with him being sent to sort screws or drill holes in concrete. Randolph also proclaimed,"I want Kris to know, however, that my wife has taught me a lot about carpentry since I graduated, so I'm not nearly as inept as before."
Randolph is also very active in theatre outside of Ambrose, as he has worked on shows with local theatres including The Curtainbox, Harrison Hilltop, New Ground, and Davenport Junior Theatre. He has performed, written music, and written plays. One of his original plays, "A Green River," is going to have a staged reading in SAU's Studio Theatre on Thursday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. Along with this staged reading, he is looking forward to being Cory Johnson's student again, bugging Eitrheim, and getting to be around Dan Rairdin-Hale.
"In retrospect," Randolph said, "it's impossible to appreciate what my time at this school and in this department meant to me, and I feel incredibly lucky to get to come back."
