Michael J. Gindl '95, '99, '04 MSITM, '08 MBA, earned the Nick Hoge Award May 12, an essay competition award named after James "Nick" Hoge, a leader of personnel innovation in the military. Gindl works at the Rock Island Arsenal as an HR Specialist for the Civilian Human Resources Agency (CHRA), North Central Region. The Nick Hoge Award recognizes Army personnel who author and submit papers on matters relating to civilian personnel administration and management that are judged professionally significant and of value to Army.
The following was written by Susan Duncan, PhD, Army Assistant G-1 for Civilian Personnel Policy, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff:
Mr. Gindl's professional paper titled, "Implementing Web-based Wizards and Web-based Dashboards," was an exceptionally well-organized, well-written paper and represented the greatest merit.
The overarching theme of Mr. Gindl's paper demonstrates the benefit from the addition and enhancement to the data entry processes in the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System (DCPDS), and other support systems, by utilizing Web-based Wizards. Management and personnel could both benefit greatly from Web-based Dashboards for process monitoring and roll-up reporting with drill down capabilities.
The Automated Nature of Action group carries on the Army's tradition of being an innovative leader by expanding its knowledge and resources with the other branches of the military. Mr. Gindl's ability to strategically incorporate technology and redirect assets serves as a business model to gain efficiencies within the Human Resources Community.
Mr. Gindl's paper is truly exceptional and exemplifies his commitment to excellence.
Gindl and other award winners were honored at a ceremony, followed by a banquet hosted by the Assistant Secretary of the Army at the Fort Myer Officers' Club.
Gindl earned several degrees from St. Ambrose University: his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering ('95) and Computer Science ('99); his master's in Information Technology Management ('04); and his MBA in 2008. He was also a recipient of the Graduate Achievement Award in 2009.
