Joe Dillon

Joe Dillon '16 left Sunday for London to begin his one-year immersion in the Master of Terrorism and Security Studies program at King's College.

Dillon is among a handful of hopefuls world-wide accepted into the program and chose this opportunity over full-ride scholarships to several U.S. master's programs. King's College accepts only 13 percent of applicants, and competition for acceptance into its Master of Terrorism and Security Studies program is keener yet.

Dillon earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Leadership Studies degree from St. Ambrose in May, graduating summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. He was the Political Science Student of the Year in 2015 and was named the Frank and Dorothy Jane Folwell Outstanding Pre-law Student in 2016.

From a QC Times article:

"Joe is a promising student and has a promising future," said Barbara Pitz, PhD, English professor and international grant adviser at SAU.

She said King's College is the type of place that looks for students "who might be important in the future in their own country."

"Ultimately, maybe it will be the U.S. Senate for him, and that would be a great place to be," she said. "And also, he will have the experience of being in another country for a year. That only prepares him better."
