First-year Focus: Adria Hogan

11/02/2017

Please welcome to the SAU First Year Focus, Adria Hogan!

You might recognize Hogan from her role as Suzanne in our recent production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Hogan has also been involved in a 10-minute scene for the current directing class, and she isn't planning on stopping there! Let's learn a little more about this up-and-coming member of the SAU Theater family!

Where are you from?
I am from Dubuque, Iowa.

What is your major?

As of right now, I'm undecided, but I'm leaning towards theatre. I'm also possibly interested in majoring in business, just because there are so many things you can do with a business degree.

When did you start doing theatre? Why did you decide to continue pursuing it at St. Ambrose?

I started theatre in the 6th grade; I played an Oompa-Loompa in Willy Wonka. I don't know, nothing else has really interested me, and I just love the feeling I get after giving a really good performance. I also love collaborating with and meeting with new people, that's always fun!

What would your dream role(s) be?
I would definitely say that one of my dream roles is to play Becca from Rabbit Hole. Another dream role would be playing any character from Almost, Maine.

What are some theatre productions you have been involved with in the past? And what do you hope to be involved with in the future?
My favorite musical I've been in would definitely be Les Miserables. Another one of my favorite productions that I was in is The Laramie Project. I also really enjoyed a 10 minute musical theatre version of Spring Awakening that I was in. Honestly, I don't know what shows I would want to be involved with in the future, I just know that I want to pursue theatre in some way, shape, or form as my career.

"When I first visited Ambrose I thought the campus was gorgeous; it was just incredibly beautiful, and the more I visited the more I saw. The campus just felt more and more like home."

What is your favorite show and Why?
My favorite show would probably have to be Rabbit Hole, because I think it accurately conveys all the problems that the characters have to work through. I love that it focuses on a real-life issue that two people could very possibly go through, which I think makes it very heartbreaking: the fact that it focuses on a situation that makes the show more real, and more sad.

What would your dream job be?
I would love to either act in a professional setting or design costumes for a professional company or show.

Why did you choose St. Ambrose?
When I first visited Ambrose I thought the campus was gorgeous; it was just incredibly beautiful, and the more I visited the more I saw. The campus just felt more and more like home. I know that sounds really cliché, but I love it here.

What is your favorite class this semester?
I would definitely say Intro to Design in Theatre, because I like going more in-depth about the different technical elements that go into a theatre production.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I guess a fun fact about myself would be that I really would like to have a pet ferret. I love animals, especially ferrets, and I really would like to own one and have it live in my dorm room, but sadly that isn't possible.
