Assistant Dean of Students and Director

Matt HansenMatt Hansen
Matt felt welcomed here as soon as he started at SAU in 1999. He works with his staff to ensure you become a member of the community here as well. Matt grew up in Rhinelander, Wis., and earned his bachelor's degree in speech communication at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. After graduation, he worked as a Hall Manager at the University of Wisconsin-Superior for three years and married his wife Jayme, whom he met while at Macalester.

Looking to continue in the Student Affairs field, Matt and Jayme moved to the University of Maine where he worked on his master's in student development in higher education. After completing his master's, the Hansens moved back to the Midwest and he accepted the Director of Residence Life and Housing position at St. Ambrose in 1999. In his time here, he has worked on the renovation of Rohlman Hall and has seen the construction of Hagen, Bechtel, Franklin, McCarthy, North, and the Rogalski Center. His duties and staff size have continued to grow, and it has been a wonderful experience. Now the Assistant Dean of Students, Matt continues to enjoy the challenges of his job and the opportunity to work with great students and staff. Matt and Jayme have two children: Hannah, a college student, and Jacob, who is in high school.

Assistant Director

Sherry WhetzlerSherry Whetzler
Sherry Whetzler joined the team in March of 2014 and quickly fell in love with St. Ambrose University's caring students, staff, and faculty, the opportunities to develop professionally and personally through the arts, parks, and libraries, and how well the community incorporated her family into the community. Email Jayide
Jayide Alexander joined our staff in January 2017. Originally from the most northern part of Maine, she has lived in 23 states, attended five colleges – including St. Ambrose – and accumulated 156 college credit hours. She sought education for the simple joy of learning. She relaxes by doing research, reading, or computer work. For her, the values that St. Ambrose represents made this the ideal place for her to work. With an unconventional history, Jayide believes that knowing yourself helps draw out the full lesson in every life experience, and teaches you to laugh often - especially when trying to explain some of the idiosyncrasies you accrue along the journey.
