• The 2013 winter and spring sports banquet will be held at noon May 5 at the Rogalski Center. Athletes from the following sports will be honored: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's bowling, men's and women's golf, men's and women's track, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, dance, cheerleading and men's volleyball. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under.
• The annual Fighting Bee Golf Classic will tee off May 31 at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport. Registration is at 10 a.m. with an 11 a.m. preferred shot scramble and a steak dinner to follow. Cost is $125 per golfer.
• The men's volleyball squad advanced to the NAIA National Championships in Denver in mid-April by winning a thrilling five-set battle with Cardinal Stritch in the MAMVIC East Conference Tournament championship. NAIA runners-up the previous two seasons, coach Bill Gleeson's Bees did not advance beyond pool play in Denver. Senior Kyle Schwetz was named to the NAIA All-American team for a third straight year and was among four players tabbed for all-league honors. Schwetz was a first-teamer, senior Dan Dierking won a spot on the second team. George Langheld and David Suwada earned honorable mention. St. Ambrose also had five players receive MAMVIC East Academic All-Conference: Charlie Brown, Dierking, Jon Hamm, Nick Lynch, and Jamie Schnittker.
• The defending national champion SAU dance team this year finished second in the NAIA Large Dance category at the NDA National Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., in mid-April. They also claimed second in the Division II Hip-Hop category.
• The SAU cheerleading squad finished third in the NAIA Challenge Cup in Daytona Beach.
• Freshman men's bowler Joe Kopera finished among the top 24 at the Intercollegiate Singles Championships in Lincoln, Neb., on April 16. A month earlier, Kopera followed teammate Kyle Anderson in winning the prestigious Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Award from the United States Bowling Congress. (See link to article below.) At the April 18, Intercollegiate Team Championships in Lincoln, the Bees bowed in the opening round.
• The men's and women's golf squads each hosted Midwest Collegiate Conference tournament action on two chilly late spring days on April 19-20. The men finished fourth at TPC Deere Run, led by Andrew Canfield and Luke Staudt who tied for 11th in the 54-hole event. At Oakwood Country Club, junior Abby Frideres tied for third to earn all-league status. The SAU women's squad finished fifth.
