Social Media Community Guidelines


St. Ambrose University welcomes the sharing of information and perspectives among prospective students, current students, alumni, staff, faculty, and friends on our social media pages. We encourage open discussions about the topics we post, but we reserve the right to periodically review posts on St. Ambrose University social media accounts and to remove posts that contain:

• Profane or obscene content;
• Off-topic content;
• Confidential or personal information about students, employees or other SAU community members;
• Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination based on race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, military or veterans status, national origin, physical or mental disability, pregnancy, age or any other protected category under applicable local, state or federal law.
• Content that violates the University's policies prohibiting harassment;
• Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity;
• Threatening, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or violent language;
• Spam or solicitations of commerce or advertisements including promotion or endorsement;
• Promotions of particular services, products or political candidates or organizations;
• Violations of the terms of use or community guidelines of the social media platform;
• Information that could compromise the safety or security of the University or any individuals;
• Falsehoods, libel, errors or incorrect factual information, including links to external websites or social media pages.

St. Ambrose employee participants will be held to the policies on these issues found in the Universal, Faculty and Staff Handbooks. St. Ambrose is not restricting the lawful free flow of information or the right of employees to engage in concerted activity.

Participants understand that they are ultimately responsible for the content they post, and as such, understand legal issues may arise from the content they post, and that St. Ambrose University is not responsible for those outcomes. St. Ambrose University is not responsible for the content posted by participants on any of its pages, nor does its existence constitute endorsement of the content by the University. We reserve the right to determine, at our discretion, whether contributions to our social media channels breach these guidelines. We reserve the right to block or ban users who do not follow these guidelines. In certain situations, the user, as well as the content, may be reported to authorities, depending on the nature of the content.
