Two student directors from Ambrose competed for this year's Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDCS) scholarship. The competition requires preparation of a 5-minute scene, casting actors, blocking and directing a scene of their choosing, and creating a prompt script.
The directors received feedback on the final product from professional directors from across the country. Out of the 21 scenes competing, five advanced to the finals.
Recent 2014 graduate Molly Conrad was one of the directors and she cast senior Chris Galvan and juniors Becca Brazel and Conor Strandquist.
Senior Robert Poston was the second director and he chose junior Becca Brazel, sophomore Jackson Green, and First Year student Kayla Lansing for his cast.
Poston's scene was one of the five chosen for the finals, and his cast members performed at the Guthrie Theatre's beautiful black box space! This was quite the accomplishment for a First Year student.
"Being in the finals for SDC and getting to perform at the Guthrie is something I will never forget, especially since it was only my freshman year!" Lansing said. "It was such a great opportunity to grow as a performer, and it was incredibly fun. It was a fantastic chance to show others how wonderful the theatre department is here at St. Ambrose and how hard we work."
Sophomore Jackson Green had a similar experience: "Being a part of the scene was really cool. I enjoyed getting to compete in a category that was all done by students and performing at the Guthrie was a really cool experience."
Congrats to Robert and his cast!
