Ambrosian theatre-lovers gathered May 5 for the annual award event, The Galvins, to celebrate another successful year. The event was hosted at The Establishment in Rock Island, IL. The gala is always open to anyone who participates in shows at St. Ambrose, including productions on the main stage, in the Studio Theatre, in the student-directed one acts, or in any of the Theatre Appreciation Club events.
The Establishment, which is home to ComedySportz, was a new venue for the event but possessed all the qualities necessary for a wonderful evening.
This year, the evening was organized by the Theatre Appreciation Club. There was a large screen for multiple presentations, including a year-in review and a senior send-off. Guests had a delicious meal catered by the owner of The QC Coffee and Pancake House. There was also a cash bar.
"It's a great way to come together and revel in all of our successes and laugh at all the mishaps we had on the way," said sophomore and TAC president Luke Peterson about the "Galvin" awards, which are given out for various reasons. Many times, these awards are presented to students for humorous (and hopefully harmless) hiccups, which inevitably happen during the production of a show. All jokes were in good fun, Peterson said.
"It's a night full of great food and even better laughs," Peterson said. "It's truly my favorite event of the year!!"
"I love looking back at all the funny moments that happened through the year and spending time with my friends and the faculty," sophomore Anthony Duckett said.
