A building at St. Ambrose bears the name of the last Bishop whose ordination was hosted by the Diocese of Davenport.
That took place in 1904 when Bishop James Davis, after whom Davis Hall was named, succeeded Bishop Henry Cosgrove following his death.
On Thursday, June 22, the Most Rev.Thomas Zinkula was ordained as the ninth Bishop of the Diocese. He succeeded the Most Rev. Martin Amos during a Mass held at St. John Vianney Church in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Sister Joan Lescinski, CSJ, PhD, president of St. Ambrose, attended the sacred event along with Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Provost Paul Koch, PhD, Vice President for Finance Mike Poster, and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Sandra Cassady, PhD. Also in attendance were SAU Trustees John Anderson and Ed Carroll.
"The installation of a new Bishop is always a major event in any Diocese," said Sister Joan. "For us at St. Ambrose, it is particularly important since we are a diocesan university, and our Bishop serves as the Chair of our Board of Trustees. I know you join me in thanking Bishop Martin Amos for his 11 years of outstanding ministry and in welcoming Bishop-Elect Zinkula. We look forward to years of collaboration with him for the good of the People of God."
