Buzz Into the Sport Industry

12/14/2016

On November 10, the St. Ambrose University Sport Management program hosted an industry and networking event in the Rogalski Center Ballroom. This was the project of KIN 408 Capstone in Sport Management. The first hour included a moderated panel with four sport industry practitioners:

Tyler Gilles, Director of Sales, Quad City Mallards
Mike Zapolski, Director of Athletics, Augustana College
Lynn Hunt, V.P. of Sales, Quad City Convention and Visitor's Bureau
Dan Matheson, former Director of Baseball Operations, New York Yankees

The panelists discussed their experiences as sport practitioners, their pathway to a career in the sport industry, and any current trends or issues they see impacting the industry.

The second hour included open networking with panelists and other local sport industry practitioners. There were also several internship booths set up by sport organizations from around the Quad Cities, including the Quad City River Bandits, the Quad City Mallards, Rock Island Parks and Recreation, St. Ambrose Campus Recreation, the Iowa Cubs, the University of Iowa, and the Quad City Raiders. This was a great opportunity for students across all majors, as well as faculty and staff, to learn more about what the sport industry has to offer.
