Senior Salute 2019

05/09/2019

Every year, the SAU Theatre Department's seniors are given the opportunity to present their best work to friends, family, and local theatre professionals one last time before graduation at the Senior Salute. This tradition has helped many students earn professional gigs that jump started their careers in well-known theaters across the country.

The senior showcases usually vary in content and length based on the number of students graduating. This year, SAU only had two graduating Theatre majors, Kendall McKasson and Rebecca Moews. Each was given 30 minutes to present their theatrical talent in the SAU Studio Theatre on the evening of April 26.

Kendall McKasson, a director and stage manager, not only presented her extensive work and philosophies as a stage manager, but also showcased a 10-minute scene starring sophomore Ellie Larson and junior Melissa Maylum. This scene was pulled from SAU's spring production of Tartuffe, in which McKasson had the dual role of stage manager and assistant director.

The remaining senior, Rebecca Moews, made the most of her slot as an actor, singer, and dancer. She performed an impressive four songs – including a tap number to a song from 42nd Street – and two monologues. She learned the tap dance after being accepted into Musical Theatre Intensive Dance at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in January.

Moews was also chosen for the Student of the Year award which is given to a graduating senior with the highest GPA, honoring their impressive work ethic and dedication to academics.

Though these seniors and their talents will be missed, the Theatre Department could not be prouder to claim them as alumni. McKasson hopes to pursue stage management in the Quad Cities area, and eventually, graduate school for directing. Moews plans to work as a magician's assistant this summer before exploring a job in communications or acting. Wherever they end up, there is no doubt they will continue to showcase their Ambrosian spirit.
