Lynn Kilburg '91, '01 MBA, DHSc, OTR/L, Professor and Director of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, is the winter commencement speaker on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
A member of the original occupational therapy graduating class, Dr. Kilburg has been a fulltime instructor in the program since 2001 and became director in 2010. Under Dr. Kilburg's leadership, the program transitioned from a master's level to a doctoral degree and assisted in opening Jim's Place, the university's Assistive Technology demonstration home.
Dr. Kilburg has served the university in numerous capacities, including as current chair of the Faculty Finance Committee, and a current member of the HLC Steering Committee and the Promotion, Tenure, and Standards Committee. She chaired the Institutional Review Board for two years and was a board member for five years prior to that. She has served on numerous search committees for leadership positions in the College of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Kilburg earned her doctoral degree in Health Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2005.
Her clinical career as an occupational therapist has included working with adults injured on the job, older adults in long-term and home care, and young children receiving early intervention services. She served the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association as treasurer for 12 years, received the Outstanding Occupational Therapist of Iowa Award in 2017, and the national Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy since 2015.
