  • Regular scheduled security patrols

    Scheduled security patrols contribute to the overall safety of our community. The presence of our officers helps deter potential security issues and ensures a quick response when needed.

  • Card access control

    Our access control measures include secure entry systems and card access to manage building entry points. This ensures that only authorized individuals have access to designated areas.

  • LiveSafe App

    Stay safe and informed with the LiveSafe app. Virtually escort your friends in real-time on a map, place emergency calls, and access safety resources.

  • Parking security and safety

    The lots are frequently patrolled, though the university assumes no responsibility for the loss or damage of items or vehicles parked on university property.

  • Visitor management protocols

    Visitors are required to have passes for overnight visits to track who is on campus. These measures contribute to the overall security of our campus community.

  • Security team emergency response

    Our security team is trained in emergency response procedures. In the event of an emergency, we have protocols in place to swiftly and effectively address the situation.

  • Engagement with the SAU community

    We actively engage with the campus community, promoting a culture of safety and vigilance. Security personnel can address concerns, provide information, and collaborate with community members.

  • CCTV surveillance

    We use a CCTV surveillance system strategically placed throughout campus. This technology enhances our ability to monitor and address security concerns in real-time.

We maintain robust collaborations with local law enforcement agencies and work various initiatives, including crime prevention programs, emergency response planning, and shared resources to ensure prompt and effective responses to security concerns.

How to report a safety or security incident

Your safety is our priority at SAU. That's why we encourage the prompt reporting of any suspicious or criminal activity, as well as safety concerns. Our Security Department is available 24/7 to assist you.We advocate reporting crime not only to us but the Davenport Police Department.

Safety and security policies and procedures at SAU

St. Ambrose University's Student Handbook underscores the significance of safety, promoting responsible behavior that ensures the well-being of everyone. This comprehensive document includes our university policies on alcohol and other drugs, privacy, sexual misconduct and sexual violence. What is the campus crime log and Clery report?

In accordance with federal regulations, a crime log is available in the security director's office and may be reviewed by anyone during normal business hours. Please call 563-333-6260 to set up a time to review the log. 

St. Ambrose University complies with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act by disclosing information on campus security, including crime statistics, fire safety information, and details on university policies related safety and security.

What can I do to keep myself safe on campus?

Ensuring your safety is a shared commitment, and at SAU, we prioritize providing a secure environment for everyone. Here are essential safety tips to keep in mind while on campus.

  • Stay updated on campus news, events, and safety alerts.
  • Familiarize yourself with the locations of emergency call boxes across campus.
  • Whenever possible, travel with friends, especially at night.
  • Stick to well-lighted pathways, especially after dark.
  • Be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or people to campus security ASAP.
  • Keep personal belongings secure. Never leave them unattended.
  • Lock doors to your vehicle, dorm, apartment, or house at all times.
  • Take advantage of campus escort services, especially late at night.
  • Follow building access policies and avoid letting unauthorized individuals into secure areas.
  • Attend safety awareness programs, workshops, and training sessions.

We prioritize the safety of our campus community, and comprehensive emergency measures are in place to ensure a prompt and effective response to any potential incidents.

  • Emergency call boxes: Strategically located throughout campus, emergency call boxes provide quick access directly to the security desk for immediate assistance. 
  • Campus alert system: This system delivers critical information promptly. Stay informed about emergencies, weather alerts, and important updates through various communication channels. 
  • Evacuation plans: Detailed evacuation plans are in place for each building, featuring clear signage and designated assembly points. Familiarize yourself with these plans to ensure a safe evacuation if necessary. 
  • Security personnel: Our dedicated security personnel are trained to respond swiftly to emergencies. They play a crucial role in maintaining a visible and vigilant presence on campus, ensuring the safety of our community.
  • Collaboration with local authorities: SAU collaborates closely with local law enforcement agencies to enhance campus safety. These partnerships ensure a coordinated response to potential security concerns. 
  • Blue Cap and elevator phones: Blue Cap and elevator phones provide additional ways to request immediate assistance. These phones connect directly to the 24-hour security desk. 
  • Blue lights for attention: Emergency call boxes are equipped with strobe lights that activate upon use, drawing attention to the caller and facilitating a quick response.
  • 911 access from campus phones: Dialing 911 from any campus phone connects you directly to emergency services. Elevator and red emergency phones in specific locations also ring directly to the security desk. 

Are there safety workshops available to students?

Absolutely. We offer a variety of safety workshops and training sessions throughout the academic year. These workshops cover a range of topics, including the following. 

  • Personal safety awareness: Workshops focus on empowering students with knowledge and skills to enhance personal safety, both on- and off-campus.
  • Emergency preparedness: Learn essential emergency procedures and preparedness measures to ensure a swift and effective response during an emergency.
  • Campus security protocols: Understand the security measures in place on campus, including access control, emergency call systems, and collaborations with local authorities.
  • Crime prevention strategies: Learn about crime prevention strategies and practices to contribute actively to maintaining a secure campus environment.
  • Reporting protocols: Learn how to report safety concerns, suspicious activities, or emergencies, ensuring timely communication with the campus security team.

What medical or health services are available to students?

Student Health Services is staffed by a registered nurse who provides free and confidential care for students and employees. The nurse will assess the health needs of clients and make appropriate referrals whenever necessary.

Services include:

  • Illness and injury assessment with referral to appropriate health care provider, as necessary
  • Act as liaison between student and health care providers (dentist, counselor, etc.)
  • Dispense over-the-counter medication and basic medical supplies free of charge
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Annual flu clinic and other vaccinations as needed
  • Free pregnancy testing  
  • Dispense and disposal of sharps container

We have a robust campus alert system in place to keep you informed about emergencies, critical incidents, and important updates. Through this system, you'll receive timely notifications via various channels, including:

  • Campus announcements: Access real-time information through campus-wide announcements.
